Abstract

Global warfare is shifting to a hybrid mode. This parallels with advances in
information technology. Several cases worldwide have shown how cyber-attacks threaten
a state's national security. This means that whether we like it or not, a state must adapt to
new and dynamic security challenges. This research will describe how cyber-attacks that
have occurred affect a state's security and how the state deals with them. This research
uses a qualitative approach. Some of the research findings are that there has been a shift
in the use of cyber attacks in the 21st century. This research will also describe what the
United States has done in cyber defence.
