Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the determination of the value of a
woman's dowry in an ethnic latitude marriage according to the perspective of Peter L
Berger and Thomas Luckmann, where this theory explains the Social Definition paradigm
using Social Construction theory which describes the process through three acts of aletic
moments, Externalization, Objectivation and Internalization, and what causes the value of
a woman's dowry to be determined based on the level of education and socio-economic
status of the community in Babatan Village, Lintang Kanan District, Empat Lawang
Regency. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative with informant
techniques carried out using purposive sampling techniques. The data collection
techniques used were observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The data
obtained is then reduced, sorted, recorded and verified to obtain data results in order to
answer the research results. The theory used is the social construction theory put forward
by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman. Research produces information that the value
of a woman's dowry in ethnic cross-country marriages in determining the amount of the
dowry is based on various factors such as social status, needs and educational status. The
standard for giving a price in dowry is a matter of standard fairness here, namely 6 grams
(1 tribe) of gold and 15 million rupiah in demand money, the size of the dowry is seen
from medium high and low, the high size of the dowry is 18 grams of gold (3 gold tribes)
more and asking money of 30 million and above, medium size 6 grams of gold (1 gold
tribe) and asking money of 10-20 million and low size dowry of 3 grams of gold (half a
gold tribe) and asking money of 510 million, because in The amount of the dowry will
later be used as initial capital or provisions for the prospective bride and groom to start
the household they will build. The higher the education a female candidate has, the higher
the dowry that must be given to the man's family, especially when the woman has worked
in government agencies or as a civil servant, the higher the value of the dowry given and
the socioeconomic status of the family has a big impact. to fulfill family needs in achieving
a prosperous standard of living.
