Abstract

This study aims to describe the efforts to preserve Dendang Art in traditional weddings
in Babatan Ilir Village, Seginim District, South Bengkulu Regency. This research was
conducted using descriptive qualitative method, the selection of informants was carried
out using Purposive Sampling technique. Data collection used observation, interview and
documentation techniques. Data analysis activities in this study include data reduction,
data presentation and conclusion drawing. The theory used to analyze the problem is Role
theory. The results of this study indicate that there is an effort to preserve Dendang Art
due to the emergence of awareness and concern about the negative impact under new
entertainment (Single Organ and Rabab Dj). To preserve or maintain Dendang Art, the
government, Dendang Art groups and the community work together to preserve Dendang
Art by holding training. The form of efforts made: 1. Efforts from the government,
fostering the community, establishing a good relationship with the head of the Dendang
Art group and facilitating the equipment needed for training. 2. Efforts from the Dendang
Art group to conduct deliberations among Dendang Art members, conduct training once
a week and make rules.
