Terpilihnya Zohran Kwame Mamdani sebagai Wali Kota New York merupakan fenomena politik kontemporer yang penting dalam kajian hubungan internasional, khususnya dalam konteks kota global. New York sebagai pusat keuangan dunia, migrasi internasional, dan institusi global menjadikan dinamika politik lokalnya memiliki implikasi internasional yang luas. Paper ini membahas fenomena tersebut dengan menempatkannya dalam kerangka hubungan antara politik lokal dan struktur ekonomi global. Pokok permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana kemenangan Mamdani dapat dipahami sebagai respons politik lokal terhadap tekanan struktural ekonomi global neoliberal, serta bagaimana hal tersebut memengaruhi peran kota global sebagai aktor sub-negara dalam sistem internasional. Untuk menjawab permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini menggunakan kerangka teori Ekonomi Politik Internasional, teori neoliberalisme, konsep kota global, dan pendekatan aktor sub-negara dalam Politik Internasional. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif melalui studi literatur terhadap buku akademik, jurnal ilmiah, serta dokumen yang relevan. Temuan utama menunjukkan bahwa kemenangan Mamdani merepresentasikan resistensi terhadap ketimpangan ekonomi global, menguatnya politik progresif di ruang urban, serta meningkatnya kapasitas kota global sebagai agen normatif dalam politik internasional. Kesimpulannya, perubahan politik di tingkat kota global memiliki implikasi signifikan terhadap dinamika ekonomi dan politik internasional kontemporer.
